Adam Young has been designing unique gardens for unique settings since 1995 and works creatively on small and large canvases, from inner city courtyards to expansive family homes and commercial premises.
Adam is known for creating beautiful gardens that are in total harmony with the client’s lifestyle and their relationship with the outdoors. Be they botanical, formal or modern contemporary, Adam’s gardens are known for their inspired planting, elegant built elements and carefully sourced materials and artefacts. From recycled boat timber for wave-like lawn edging, to a rambling family garden with children’s hideaways, or a sleek, low-maintenance entertaining zone, Adam works closely with the client to maximise the garden’s individuality and create stunning green spaces which will enhance the occupants’ daily lives.
Adam has travelled extensively and been inspired by gardens in America, Europe, Japan and Thailand, in particular the painterly gardens of English designer, Gertrude Jekyll, with their beauty, variety and mystery. He has also designed temple gardens in India and Australia.
Adam holds a Bachelor of Applied Science in Horticulture from the University of Melbourne (Burnley College). Before establishing Adam Young Garden Design he consolidated his knowledge of the principles of design and thoughtful plant selection through work by international garden designers in Melbourne, and with the National Trust (Victoria) on heritage landsape plans. He was consultant to the Menzies Foundation on their landscape masterplan for Sages Cottage, Mornington Peninsula.
Some prime examples of Adam’s work are found in the Melbourne suburbs of Albert Park, Williamstown, Malvern, Glen Iris, Murrumbeena and Brighton.
